Our profession

Our secret? It’s all down to a combined dose of passion, know-how and professionalism

With an annual turnover of nearly 20 million euros, the Belgian company Les Carrières de la Pierre Bleue is one of the leaders in the mining, sawing and shaping of blue stone in Europe. La Pierre Bleue Belge® (Belgian Blue Stone) is a brand developed by our company that is inextricably tied to our Belgian heritage.

For more than 300 years, we have been producing and marketing Belgian Blue Stone, also known as Petit Granit.

Every year, we produce more than 40,000 m3 of Blue Stone: rough blocks, sheets and finished products (shaped and marble masonry). We set out to guarantee an impeccable technical and aesthetic quality at our 3 quarries in Belgium:

  • The Gauthier et Wincqz site in Soignies (opened in 1668)
  • The Clypot site in Neufvilles (opened in 1898)
  • The Tellier des Prés site in the communes of Soignies, Braine-le-Comte and Ecaussinnes (opened in 2006)

Time-honoured expertise

An inextricable part of Belgium’s heritage and culture, Belgian Blue Stone is the outcome of a tradition and expertise that goes back over three centuries.

This time-honoured expertise has enabled us to develop major industrial capacities in terms of sawing, mechanical cutting and marble finishes, which is now enshrined in a regulatory framework. To guarantee impeccable quality, we pay particular attention to the selection process. Only 15 to 20% of the mined stone will end up as ornamental stone.

Our expertise and support are also available to construction-industry players (architects, contractors, engineering firms, etc.) so that they can put the technical and aesthetic qualities of Belgian Blue Stone to optimal use in their projects.
